Morning Has Broken Again / May 21 2008

Audrey and I passed a group of schoolgirls this morning who were arguing about who was better, the Spice Girls or the Pussycat Dolls.
They were competing with each other, playing scratchy, little mp3s of either artist on their mobile phones – a quiet but intensely annoying, high-pitched cacophony. It spoilt what was up till then a lovely morning.

What annoyed me even more was the litter they were dropping everywhere: empty cans of Fanta and Pepsi Max, crisp packets and chocolate wrappers - this kind of behaviour disgusts me. Their parents are just as bad; nobody around here seems to care about the state of their surroundings, of the condition of the roads and backstreets they call home.

To be honest, I have had it up to here with the ugly, devolved inhabitants of this village and their simple children, wandering aimlessly around in their ignorance with destruction on their minds, spitting, swearing and generally abusing their environment. I wish the parish council would let me loose on the market place with a Kalashnikov and two hundred rounds of ammunition. That would sort things out. Davy Lawrence: Licensed To Kill Idiots.

Predictably, I was fuming when we got back to the house. I had to lie down in the recovery position for an hour and a half until I felt a little better. Later, after recording this week’s podcast, I opened a cold beer, and with a well-rehearsed inevitability, one thing led to another. And another.

Be done with your devolved inhabitants and come and live in that London with me. We can beat up some tramps and steal some ladies.

Okay, Nelson.
Look for a nice little terraced cottage for me on the Old Kent Road, will you. I’m off out now to buy train tickets for me and Audrey. Toodlepip!
