Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? / August 31 2007
Nelson returned to London yesterday. We have been working so hard on his new songs that the past week has absolutely flown by - so much so, in fact, that I have not been able to find even a minute in which to write a quick post.
Sitting writing this, alone in the house with Audrey, I cannot tell you how much I am missing him. My anxiety is slightly alleviated however by the fact that he has arranged to return in November to work some more in the studio on his new album.
That gives me two full months in which to try to recover from the huge amount of over-drinking I have been forced into helping him with while he has been here. To say that he is a bad influence on me and my normal conscientious sobriety would be to indulge in riotous irony, but, whilst that would still be a very accurate observation, I do not really mind at all.
We began by working on three of his brand new numbers, and I have to tell you this: I was stunned by their quality. The three tracks were Tumble and Fall, Get Up, and Little Animal. His skills as a songwriter and as a performer in the studio have matured and improved beyond any expectations I may have had.
In the meantime, his 7-track acoustic album Half Nelson is finished, and with the new publicity shots that we had done of him this weekend, which are also excellent, the release of that album is only a few weeks away now. As soon as we have a definite date, I shall advertise it here.
Right now, I have to steal myself and go and work really hard on the new Enormous album that should have been finished ages ago. It is hard work being a genius sometimes.
