The Hand That Time Forgot / August 12 2007
I was supposed to be recording some guitar in the studio today but I had to call a halt to the session.
Last night, like some kind of retarded imbecile or want-wit, I slept very soundly for about eight hours on my left hand.
Consequently, it is now almost completely numb and seems determined to remain in this incapable state for at least the rest of today. It will not do anything I have asked of it so far this morning. It is even refusing to hit the keys accurately as I sit here trying to type this, pecking away intensely - but rather feebly - at my computer keyboard.
I must look quite comical with my flaccid appendage just hanging there, quite useless. I shall have to hide it from the girl-morons on the rec’ – they will have field-day if they catch sight of it.
This situation may seem trivial to you, but I can assure you that to me it isn’t. To have my favourite hand lying their indolently in my lap in all its droopy glory, mocking me with its listless digits, is a tragedy at worst and very bloody annoying at best.
So I have resolved to forget about my guitar-playing for today. I shall take solace from the fact that I have decided to enjoy myself by just kicking back for a change. I am going to spend my Sunday just gazing longingly at my dog whose beautiful little face is, as always, music to my eyes.
As I type these last few words, she knows that we are about to go for her favourite walk down to the river. She is so excited; she is jumping around like some kind of female madman. ‘Come on girl, let’s go,’ I have just said to her.
My voice must have betrayed some of the frustration I am feeling because she has just touched me very gently on the hand with her wet nose and is looking up at me with her big, brown eyes as if to say, ‘You’ll be alright.’
