The Truth About Moths / May 24 2007

In answer to a recent comment from Jo Beaufoix: I did indeed once swallow a moth.

It was purely by accident, you understand – I was not acting as some kind of rapacious alien contestant on I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here.

One day, I was laughing uncontrollably at something stupid and a big furry moth flew very close to my face. I took a quick and generous intake of breath and – wumpf! There it was gone.

I remember I had to muster all of my reserved strength to try to eject the offending creature, but to no avail. It was never seen again.

On reflection, it was another episode in my life that later proved to have significant and predictable comedic properties, though I cannot say that it was a truly edifying or enjoyable experience. And the outcome was much worse for the poor, unfortunate moth, of course.
