Bones / December 13 2006
I can’t tell you how pleased I was that the Killers have recorded a song about Bones.
Over the years, I think, as the subject of a popular song lyric, he has been woefully ignored.
Other members of the Enterprise have long since been celebrated or at least happily alluded to in several jolly compositions. Do you remember It’s Life, Jim, But Not As We Know It by Luminous Flux, or Where’s Captain Kirk? by Spizzenergi, or even Beam Me Up, Scotty by The Fortune 500? All classics in their own right.
Well now it’s Dr McCoy’s turn, and if you ask me, it’s long overdue.
Listen to the Killers as they sing Bones and try not to picture his cheeky little face, those serious and craggy and leathery features that we all remember so fondly, as you skip around the lounge to its jaunty beat. It’s impossible! Indeed, if I close my eyes, I can see him now. How I miss the old fellow.
So go buy the single and enjoy yourselves. It’s only natural.

Must say that Bones was always my favourite ST character - miserable old git - not like me at all.
I wouldn’t stand in a molecule changing beam and neither would DeForest.
Kirk: “What have I done Bones?”
Bones: “You did what you had to do, turned death into a fighting chance to live.”
What a guy.
