Who Do You Go Home To? #3 / December 12 2006
Bernard was coming out of the betting shop as I was passing with Audrey this afternoon.
‘Ah! Glad I bumped into you, brother,’ he said.
He was wearing blue carpet slippers, an old, scruffy tweed jacket, a grimy pink checked shirt the ends of the collar of which were curling upwards in a vain attempt to escape his musky odour, and a garish green and orange striped tie. He looked like an optical illusion.
‘Do you have your message ready yet, Bernard, the one you wanted me to give to the world?’ I asked him.
‘Oh yes,’ he replied.
‘Well, what is it?’
He pulled me towards him until our faces were almost touching and I could smell the stale cigarette smoke on his breath. His eyes opened wide, he smiled, and said, ‘I’m going to the Moon!’

Well thankyou kindly! I am about to avail myself of an ice-cold Guinness. Would you care to join me?

I am so glad Bernard is going to the moon. Is he going ‘economy’ (half-moon) or first class (full moon)?
And, if Joni doesn’t want to take you up on the offer of an ice-cold guinness, I certainly will.
